According to Certified Nutrition Specialist, Mike Geary, there are two simple tricks to bring down your blood sugar, build up insulin sensitivity, fight food cravings,  and keep your body on fat-burning mode. These pre-meal tricks can help diabetics control blood sugar and help non-diabetics balance their hormones through blood sugar balancing. Author of best-selling books The Fat Burning Kitchen and The Top 101 Foods that Fight Ageing, Geary says that by maintaining lower and more stable blood sugar levels, you can help prevent food cravings and slow down ageing. The two wonder substances are fresh lemon juice and cinnamon.

Have 3 tbsp of freshly squeezed lemon juice before  meals to lower blood sugar level by roughly 10%. Lowering blood sugar helps control insulin levels, prevent food cravings and keeps the body on fat-burning mode.

Cinnamon is even more powerful in bringing down blood sugar response to a meal. 2 teaspoons of cinnamon before a high carbohydrate meal can reduce glycemic response of a meal by as much as 29%.

So how do you add all that extra cinnamon in your system?  Stir it in smoothies, yogurt or oatmeal or apples and other other fruits of your choice. You can pop in cinnamon capsules  before  a carbohydrate-rich meal. Cinnamon and lemon tea is also a light, simple and highly rejuvenating option.

Before you trot off to the nearest spice market, do remember to refrain from having more than 1.5 teaspoons a day (4gms). Consult with your family physician to make sure the dosage does not interfere with any medication you may be under such as blood sugar thinners.
